Successful model for regulated company succession

How can the succession in a company and thus its successful continuation be organised for the current owners? Especially if they want to leave a family-run company but have no successor? The participants of the Chef-Erfa 18 of the wvib (Schwarzwald AG Freiburg) explored this question during their meeting at Klingel medical metal in Pforzheimer Altgefäll. Host and CEO Ralf Petrawitz gave a vivid account from his own experience to his fellow managing directors from the medical technology sector of how an investment company can enable a regulated succession - and that with steady growth. He gave a detailed presentation on the development of the family business for CNC machining founded by Helmut Klingel in 1986 into the private equity-financed Klingel Holding with eight locations in Germany and Switzerland. He had successfully accompanied five company acquisitions to date, which were accompanied by the development of new technologies, expertise and business areas and created synergy effects in the value chain. The recent takeover by the Swedish medical technology company Elos Medtech increases the number of employees to around 1500 and enables further global growth. The day's programme also included a tour of the company and a discussion moderated by wvib Managing Director Dr Christoph Münzer on current topics such as economic trends, the shortage of skilled workers, digital transformation and dealing with cost increases.

Christmas party under the stars

The employees of Klingel medical metal were well prepared for the bitter cold at this year's company Christmas party on Friday evening. The party took place in the form of a cosy "Budenzauber" in the courtyard of Plant I. Heating umbrellas and fire bowls provided the opportunity to warm up. And once again, Managing Director Ralf Petrawitz's self-created Feuerzangenbowle was on tap. The company boss did not miss the opportunity to serve the classic, hot winter drink in a matching outfit from his wooden hut. Of course, non-alcoholic beverages were also on offer, as well as various grilled sausages in rolls. Fairy lights, candlelight, Christmas sounds, gingerbread and speculoos made the convivial get-together and the anticipation of the festivities perfect. Our trainees also visibly enjoyed themselves.

Sweet surprise for St. Nicholas Day

The management of Klingel medical metal surprised the employees with freshly baked figures from yeast dough on St. Nicholas' Day. The event was organised in cooperation with the Lions Club Johannes Reuchlin in Pforzheim. Tilo Burkhardt, Vice-President of the Lions Club, had been on the road with his team since 5 a.m. and arrived at Klingel in Altgefäll with his well-filled transport vehicle for the snack break. The staff was delighted with the delicious yeast pastries. A total of 3,400 so-called "Dambedeis" were distributed to several companies on St. Nicholas Day. As last year, the proceeds will go to the (charity) "Vesperkirche".

Trainees of the FMB company on an information visit to Klingel

The training department of FMB from Faulburg visited Klingel medical metal in Pforzheim with all technical and commercial trainees as well as their managers. After arriving by bus, the group of 20 was welcomed by Managing Director Ralf Petrawitz. He introduced the medical technology company with its four factories in the Altgefäll industrial estate, its sectors/application areas and its production technologies. He also explained the group of companies within the Klingel Group with four other portfolio companies in Southern Germany and Switzerland, the resulting synergy effects and special service offers as well as the further expansion plans to become the market leader in Europe. During the guided tour of the company, the visitors were impressed by the great variety of different processes and the ongoing investments in further automation. For many years now, Klingel medical metal has had a partnership with the machine manufacturer FMB, which offers automation solutions for loading and unloading machine tools. So it was only natural that the future electronics technicians, logistics technicians, industrial mechanics and industrial clerks from FMB should get to know one of their long-standing customers in person.

Ralf Petrawitz, managing partner, congratulated the employees on this special occasion and thanked them for their many years of commitment and loyalty to the company. He hoped for continued good cooperation and wished the employees much success and, above all, good health.

Staff barbecue in a new ambience

For the first time again after a break of two years due to corona, the staff barbecue took place in a new ambience on the Klingel factory premises. The partially covered forecourt at Plant IV was ideally suited for the event. There, on Friday afternoon, the guests could help themselves to the buffet provided by the Zorn butcher's shop, which left nothing to be desired. The freshly prepared dishes, including leg of lamb, suckling pig, fillet of beef and various roast sausages, grilled vegetables and salads found many takers. The drinks trolley and an ice chest provided the necessary refreshment on the summery day. The cosy get-together at beer or bistro tables and with music from the DJ lasted until the evening hours. A nice start to the weekend!

Great team performance at the AOK company run

After three years of forced break due to corona, the AOK company run took place again on 11 May at 6 pm in the Enzauenpark. With 21 male and two female runners, including six trainees and Managing Director Ralf Petrawitz, Klingel medical metal had a record number of participants on the five-kilometre course and was the fourth-largest team (out of 37). In addition to the summery weather, the results of the colleagues were also record-breaking.

A total of around 420 participants from various companies and organisations from Pforzheim, the Calw district and the Enz district took part in the company run. After 21:33 minutes, Joscha Martin was the first of the Klingel team to cross the finish line (18th place out of 239), followed by Erik Hagius (23:04 minutes, 34th place out of 239)) and Danny Bötcher (26:40 minutes, 89th place out of 178). Among the Klingel women, Ira Jacob was the fastest with 28:15 minutes (21st place out of 178), ahead of Karin Ferenbach with 29:47 minutes (30th place out of 178). In the team classification, the Klingel mixed team with Martin, Hagius, Jacob and Ferenbach finished in an excellent fifth place (out of 52 teams). The best men's team with Martin, Hagius, Bötcher and Kulakovskij came eighth (out of 46 teams). The successful participation was toasted with Bäuerle beer. Many thanks to all participants on and off the course. We are already looking forward to the next sporting team event.

Successful start to the trade fair season at MedtecLive with T4M in Stuttgart

The Klingel medical metal group presented itself with a new group stand at the MedtecLive with T4M in Stuttgart from 3 to 5 May. On the three days of the trade fair, the partner companies Klingel medical metal (Pforzheim), Josef Ganter Feinmechanik (Dauchingen), Puracon (Rosenheim), Bächler Feintech (Hölstein, Switzerland) and Ruetschi Technology (Muntelier, Switzerland) showed their entire portfolio of applications, engineering and processes as contract manufacturers for medical and dental technology. Interesting and promising discussions developed with visitors to the stand, including some regular customers, but also potential new customers, suppliers, press representatives and students from various universities. The diverse exhibits from orthopaedics, endoscopy, dental implants and single-turn instruments as well as packaging technology, which reflected the entire value chain of the full service provider, attracted a great deal of attention.
